In Plain English: We don't run financial-data servers and have no accounts that can see your records — your financial information stays on YOUR device. We do use hosting and payment infrastructure to deliver the app and Premium (Firebase Hosting, Cloudflare Worker, Razorpay), plus spam prevention and device-to-device transfer only when you use those features. These terms are short because there's very little for us to do with your financial data — because we never see it.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Expense Tracker, you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement.

2. Description of Service

Expense Tracker is an offline-first progressive web application designed to help users track personal expenses, income, budgets, and financial data. The application stores all core financial records locally on your device using browser storage technologies (IndexedDB, LocalStorage, Cache Storage).

Key Point: Your financial records are stored locally and are never sent to our servers. Specific actions you choose — such as paying for Premium, sending feedback, contacting support, or transferring data between your own devices — do require a network connection and are described in Sections 3 and 7.

3. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is fundamental to how Expense Tracker works. Here's exactly how your data is handled:

No financial-data collection: We do not collect your transactions, budgets, accounts, or spending patterns. Core tracking, calculations, receipt OCR, and report generation run locally on your device.
Local storage only for financial records: All your financial records are stored in your browser's IndexedDB — a sandboxed database that only your device can access. Clearing browser data will permanently delete local records.
No accounts required: There is no account system, no login password, and no credential store for the tracker itself.
Offline-first, with user-initiated network use: Core tracking works offline after the initial load. A network connection is required only when you choose to: load the app and assets (Firebase Hosting, CDN, Google Fonts), pay for Premium (Razorpay via our Cloudflare Worker proxy), send in-app feedback or use the contact form (Google Apps Script + Google reCAPTCHA), or transfer data between your own devices (PeerJS signalling with Google STUN servers).
No advertising or behavioural tracking: We do not run ads and do not use analytics or advertising trackers. Third parties that deliver the site or a feature you invoke (hosting, payment, spam prevention, device-to-device transfer) necessarily receive standard technical data such as your IP address. Your Data, Your Control: You can delete individual entries, clear all data, or export your information at any time. Since we never have access to your data, you have complete control.

4. User Responsibilities

Use the application for legitimate personal finance tracking purposes only
Maintain the security of your device and access to the application
Ensure the accuracy of financial data you input into the application
Regularly export your data as a backup (since data is stored locally only)
Not attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or distribute the application unlawfully

5. Data Ownership and Control

You retain complete ownership of all financial data you enter into Expense Tracker. We have no access to, and claim no rights over, your financial records.

Export and reports: CSV export, backup, and downloadable reports are Premium features. CSV import is available on all plans.
Device-to-device transfer: Premium users can transfer a full backup between their own devices via QR code and peer-to-peer connection. Verify the code in person and use a trusted network — anyone who scans your code can connect.
Delete: You can delete individual entries or clear all application data at any time (Settings → Clear All Data).
Portability: Your data is stored in standard browser formats that can be exported (Premium) and migrated at your direction.
Device permissions stay local: Camera (receipt/QR scanning), microphone (voice input), and notifications are used only on-device for the feature you invoke. Browser-based voice recognition may send audio to your browser vendor's speech service, depending on your browser.

6. Service Limitations

The free plan is limited to 40 entries, default categories, and no CSV export or backup download. Premium unlocks unlimited entries, custom categories, export, backup, reports, and device-to-device transfer. Because records are stored locally, clearing browser data, switching browsers or devices, or reinstalling without a backup will permanently delete local records. Premium users should export regularly; free users should upgrade before hitting the 40-entry limit if they need a portable backup.

7. Payment Terms

Premium is a one-time purchase (currently ₹49 INR, regular price ₹99) processed via Razorpay through our Cloudflare Worker order and verification proxy. The Worker handles order creation and signature verification only — card, UPI, and bank details are handled securely by Razorpay and are never visible to us. Your Premium licence is stored locally on the device where you activate it; clearing browser data may require re-activation using your Razorpay Payment ID or unlock code. Premium purchases are final and non-refundable except where required by applicable law or granted through Razorpay's dispute process.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of Expense Tracker are owned by us and protected by international copyright laws.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Expense Tracker is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. Local browser storage is sandboxed but not encrypted at rest, and any script running on the same origin could read it — keeping your device, browser, and extensions trustworthy matters. The in-app passcode and biometric lock deter casual access but do not encrypt your data.

10. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of Expense Tracker, including data loss from browser clearing, device loss, or failure to maintain a backup. Since we do not store your financial records, we cannot recover deleted local data.

11. Service Availability

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue Expense Tracker at any time without prior notice. Core tracking continues to work offline with already-cached data, but initial loads, payments, feedback, contact, and device-to-device transfer depend on third-party availability.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms and conditions from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
